Flights to the Maldives most often go through Dubai, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, London, and Doha, though there are flights from other cities in Europe and Asia. From North America, the most popular flight route is to fly through Dubai as Emirates Airlines has nonstop flights from 10 US cities to Dubai. Emirates has multiple flights a day between Dubai and the Maldives. Several other major carriers have flights including Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, British Airways, Sri Lankan Airlines, and Bangkok Airways. After landing at Velana International Airport, options for transferring to resorts are based on distance. Short jaunts from the airport are achieved via speedboat, while resorts further out are reached by seaplane or domestic flight.
It is warm year-round in the Maldives. October to May is the driest season while June to September sees a bit more rain. The wet season in the Maldives is comparable to the dry season in many other destinations. We think it’s a great destination any time of the year. When rain falls, it typically lasts for an hour or so in the afternoon or evening. Christmas through New Year’s is the most expensive period, with resorts having lavish celebrations. May to September tends to have the lowest rates.
