MalaMala Private Game Reserve is situated in the eastern part of South Africa in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve. It shares a 12 mile border with the Kruger National Park and is in its own private reserve. Award winning and home to World famous game viewing, it is almost guaranteed guests will see a wide variety of animals.

MalaMala Private Game Reserve is made up of three separate lodges: Rattray’s, Sable, and the Main Camp. Rattray’s is the most luxurious of the three lodges, Sable Camp is great for those seeking privacy, and the Main Camp offers a fun atmosphere for those wanting a great all-around safari experience.

Rattray’s On MalaMala

Rattray’s on MalaMala represents a classical “into Africa” safari experience in keeping with MalaMala’s history of presenting an authentic view of wildlife in Africa to the discerning traveler. Facilities within the main elegant building incorporate a viewing deck, an air-conditioned library providing a refuge for the literary devotee, an attractive bar showcasing the history of the area and an adjoining wine cellar stocked with a wide range of South Africa’s best wines.

Sable Camp

Situated at the southern end of the MalaMala reserve in a prime elevated position overlooking the Sand River and surrounding bush, the Sable Camp is an ideal retreat for the more reclusive traveler who prefers privacy and exclusivity. A library with satellite television and internet connectivity give one the option to stay in touch with the world whilst the intimate safari bar, swimming pool and large wooden deck surrounding the camp provide the platform from which to admire the unimpeded views that make the Sable Camp experience so rich and interactive.

MalaMala Main Camp

The ochre colored buildings are clustered amid shady trees and manicured lawns overlooking the Sand River. Despite the comfort offered, MalaMala retains an authentic camp atmosphere, where the attention to detail for which Mala Mala is world famous is obvious. The spacious, beautifully decorated Buffalo lounge displaying bronzes, works of art and animal trophies leads onto an expansive wooden deck which provides an elevated view of animals watering in the Sand River.

MalaMala Main Camp

The accommodation at the Main Camp continues the African theme with spacious bungalows under thatch. The 18 luxury rooms consist of rooms, suites, family rooms, a disabled suite and one single room. Photographic safaris are conducted in open 4-wheel drive vehicles which allows for total freedom of movement and the ability to leave the road and track down Africa's Big Five - Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Elephant and Buffalo. After dark, spotlight safaris provide the opportunity to view nocturnal creatures and carnivores on the hunt and walking safaris with an armed ranger can be arranged on request.

The success of their safaris can be measured by the fact that more than 76% of guests are members of their 'Big Five Club', which means that they have had sightings of the Big Five. This phenomenal rate of viewing success is directly attributed to the fact that MalaMala Game Reserve comprises 33,000 acres of pristine game viewing land, making it the largest privately owned game reserve in South Africa, with human density and impact on the land being kept to an absolute minimum. Another reason is the unfenced border between MalaMala Game Reserve and the Kruger National Park, which allows herds of animals to migrate unhindered to the perennial Sand River which flows north to south through the MalaMala Game Reserve for 13 miles.
