Stretching nearly 300 miles in the sun-seared wilderness of South Australia’s deserts, the Flinders Ranges - South Australia’s largest mountain range, is one of the country’s most impressive outback locations. In the middle of these stunning red ranges, Angorichina Station, covering 214 square miles, comes as a startling contrast - an oasis of roses and lavender hedges, green lawns and shade – and access to a remarkable world.

For guests, one of the real pleasures of staying at Angorichina Station is the chance to become absorbed into the life of a working outback sheep station that has been in the same family for four generations. Ian and Di Fargher provide all meals and individual touring and hosting. This allows guests the opportunity to experience genuine southern outback hospitality in a comfortable, relaxing Australian way. With only 2 rooms, Angorichina is a private and amazing way to experience life on a sheep station in the midst of unique beauty.

A superb range of recreational activities including archery, horse riding, and desert cruising add to the enjoyment of the surrounding landscape. With a view of the rolling desert dunes, the main pool area – a staggering 15,000 sq. ft. featuring a rainforest area, waterfall, a beach concept with real beach sand on the deck and 250 sun loungers, Jacuzzi seats, and a special shaded children’s pool – is the focal point of the resort.

There are two guest rooms sleeping up to 2 guests each, one located in the main homestead with the other being a separate garden cottage that once functioned as a school room. Both have private bathroom facilities. For single parties booking the station exclusively, it is possible to utilize further rooms in the homestead for up to 8 persons in total (shared bathrooms).

The homestead is an oasis in an otherwise severe, yet beautiful environment. Within its thick stone walls is a world of calm and grace, music, flowers, books and antique furnishings surround you, while mouth-watering cooking aromas issue from the kitchen. Dating from the 1860’s, this original homestead is a classic of Australian vernacular architecture – although no architect ever had a hand in its making. It simply grew as necessity dictated and wealth allowed.

Angorichina Station's accommodation consists of a tastefully renovated schoolroom with an ensuite bathroom known as The Cottage.

For single parties booking the station exclusively, it is possible to utilize further rooms in the homestead for up to 8 persons in total (shared bathrooms).

Mouth-watering aromas disperse from the kitchen as your hosts prepare outback cuisine coupled with great Australian wines in and intimate and private atmosphere. Guests have the opportunity to learn in depth about what cooking is like on a traditional outback ranch. Learning about the local foods and traditional medicinal plants in the area makes for an enriching experience while learning about the local Aboriginal people.

Sheep Station

Station activities such as mustering, sheep shearing and bore runs allow guests to experience life on a working station. Guests can meander through the virtual museum of 19th century outbuildings - the shearing shed, shearers’ quarters, the former manager’s residence, tack room, windmills and the numberless small sheds that a working property requires.

Wildlife

Animals such as emus, kangaroos, Yellow-footed Rock Wallabies and the abundant birdlife are abundant in the area. The area is a treasure trove of fossil history and searching for prehistoric fossils can be a fun adventure.

Aboriginal Cultural Experiences

An Aboriginal perspective on this landscape is essential. Arthur Coulthard, a member of the local Adnyamathanha people and a ranger at the national park that adjoins Angorichina, offers a highly recommended private tour offering an intriguing insight into the cultural link with the land and the identification of local foods and medicinal plants.

Privacy

Enjoy evening excursions to one of the high peaks around the property for sunset drinks and hors d’oeuvres. All meals and tours are private and led by the station hosts. This allows travelers the opportunity to experience genuine southern outback hospitality in a comfortable, relaxing Australian way.
